Doors Open in July, 2026, with Outer-Planet Sextiles
A rare and powerful alignment of outer planet sextiles in 2024-29 invites us to reflect on our creative journey, our healing path, and the collective process of transformation.
Something important is happening this July, and it’s getting closer: a rare and powerful alignment of outer planet sextiles. This cosmic configuration, unfolding from 2024 through 2029, invites us to reflect on our creative journey, our healing path, and the collective process of transformation. Let's explore what these alignments mean for us, and how we can harness their energy for positive change.

What I’m referring to is a special set of alignments: the sextile from Neptune to Pluto and from Uranus to Neptune. This configuration—sometimes called an outer-planet double sextile, triangle, or mini trine—comes in and out of exact alignment each year, peaking as the planets approach their closest before separating slightly and realigning the following year. Let’s dive into what makes this year's alignment so special.
Understanding the Sextile: Glimpsing Possibility
We’re now in year three of this cycle, which began in 2024. In 2025 and 2026, the planets come within half a degree of an exact double sextile—an extraordinary moment. What fascinates me, due to the rarity and elegance of this alignment, is the way Neptune is in its waxing sextile to Pluto, while Uranus—the next slower-moving planet from the solar system’s edge—is in its waxing sextile to Neptune and its waxing trine to Pluto. These alignments are not fleeting: Pluto and Neptune move through a 500-year cycle, while Uranus completes its circle in about 84 years. When Uranus, comparatively, “zips” up to these giants, it’s as if it’s saying, “Let me help you out here.”
Neptune and Pluto have been in a sextile since the 1940s, thanks to their elliptical orbits. Sometimes, Neptune’s orbit carries it farther out than Pluto’s, allowing the pair to travel together in a 60° sextile for decades, even within their vast 500-year cycle.
In astrology, a sextile is a phase where you glimpse new possibilities—like the waxing crescent Moon, when you first see the promise of what’s to come. The New Moon is when you plant seeds and set intentions, even before you know exactly how things will unfold. This cosmic “glimpse” is what makes the sextile so energizing and creative.
A Team Effort: Power, Love, and Consciousness
Dreams and Power: The Neptune-Pluto Cycle
When Neptune and Pluto were conjunct (back in the 1890s), they planted the seed for a cycle of dreams, imagination, spirituality, power, truth, and transformation. Now, at the first 60 degrees of separation, the waxing sextile phase (which has been in place since the 1940s due to their elliptical orbits) asks us to envision the future: to recognize the spiritual stories, myths, and dreams that hold the power to shape what’s coming. This is a time for visionary thinking and for anchoring our hopes in the possibility of real transformation.
Vision and Innovation: The Uranus-Neptune Cycle
Uranus is now forming a waxing sextile to Neptune. Their last conjunction, in 1992–1993, was the seed moment for a new era of consciousness, technology, and communication (think: the birth of the internet, email, and cell phones). Now, at the waxing sextile, we are seeing the first glimmers of what this cycle can bring: Uranus delivers new ideas, technological shifts, and innovative thinking that help make Neptune’s dreams and visions possible. We’re only at the beginning of witnessing this cosmic promise unfold.
Collective Change: The Uranus-Pluto Cycle
These creative energies—Neptune sextile Pluto, Uranus sextile Neptune, and Uranus trine Pluto (trine = 120°)—are all still in the early, visionary phases of their cycles. For Uranus and Pluto, the last conjunction was in the 1960s—a time of profound change, new thinking, and collective imagination for peace, love, and justice. We’re building on those seeds now, fueled by the waxing (building) energy of these planetary alignments.
Shifting Elements: From Earth and Water to Air and Fire
Right now, all the outer planets are in this visionary, supportive phase, speaking to our deepest truth, spirituality, and collective soul needs. As my guest Sarah L'Hrar put it: Pluto (higher power), Neptune (higher love), and Uranus (higher consciousness) are working together as a cosmic team to imagine what the world could become. This is the magic of the double waxing sextile.
The double sextile began with Pluto in Capricorn, Neptune in Pisces, and Uranus in Taurus—earth and water signs. Now, all three outer planets have moved into air and fire: Pluto in Aquarius, Neptune in Aries, and Uranus in Gemini. This shift brings intensified creativity (fire), new inspiration, and rapid communication and information flows (air). We see this reflected in the rise of technology and artificial intelligence, with an urgent need for ethical boundaries as we navigate these changes.
July 2026: The Cradle Configuration
At a time of confronting “doomsday” themes—climate change, authoritarianism, and other global challenges, this cosmic alignment brings new visions of the future filled with creative possibility. This energy will amplify whatever we focus on as we head into the summer. If we dwell on fear and what’s going wrong, we stay stuck. But if we remember our power to act, participate, and create, we can harness this energy for new solutions, powerful innovations, and transformative change—perhaps even more powerful because of the pressure we are experiencing.
Between July 18th and 22nd, 2026, the three outer planets come within half a degree of exact alignment. Jupiter in Leo forms another sextile with Uranus. Imagine a circle: Pluto-Neptune, Neptune-Uranus, and Uranus-Jupiter all spaced by 60°, followed by an opposition—creating a rare “cradle” configuration. The magical geometry brings a potent cosmic mix.
As of now, the planets are drawing closer to their tightest alignment. Jupiter isn’t quite in position, but the double sextile among the three outer planets is already active. Saturn joined Neptune at the apex of this cosmic triangle in February 2026, further energizing this rare configuration. While the double sextile lasts from 2024–2029, 2026 stands out as an especially potent and magical year.
Embrace Uncertainty, Lean Into Choice
As we move toward July, let’s pause and acknowledge: what we’re doing is hard. There’s no guidebook for where we’re headed, and the outcome doesn’t exist yet—because we haven’t created it! This is a process, not a single result. Every personal and collective decision shapes the journey. Your choices matter. Your approach matters. How you show up for yourself and others matters.
This isn’t about guilt or overwhelming responsibility—it’s about possibility. You can always reevaluate and make new choices. That’s the magic: every decision matters, and you get another chance, every day. The past is gone; what matters is what you do now. Support yourself in making the best choices you can.
I hope this gives you a sense of why this time is so important, and how we’re entering a more magical, supportive, and synchronistic alignment. If you’d like to go deeper, check out my articles published in The Evolving Astrologer and on astro.com.
