Honest Talk About Astrology with Louise Edington

Astrology as Healing, Astrology as Possibility: My Conversation with Louise Edington

I recently sat down with Louise Edington of Cosmic Owl Astrology for a free-roaming talk about what astrology is really for, and how we’d love to see it used.

Here’s a taste of what we covered:

Healing from the inside out. For both of us, studying astrology has been a path of personal growth. We both believe good astrology starts with a willingness to do our own inner work, whether we’re reading charts, teaching, or writing.

Why language matters. A birth chart can’t tell you someone’s gender, race, or identity, because we all carry the full range of these archetypes. So why do we still call Mars masculine and Venus feminine? We talk about the difference between language that labels or frightens people and language that empowers them.

The long view on Saturn and Neptune. I explain why the Saturn-Neptune conjunction at 0° Aries begins a roughly 35-year cycle of dreams taking shape. Astrologers often look back to what happened last time, but I’m curious what happens when we use astrology to imagine what we want to create over decades. (My article on this is in the latest issue of The Evolving Astrologer, which is free to download from the Organization for Professional Astrology.)

Tools, not just descriptions. Clients often tell me, “Of course that’s me. Now what do I do about it?” We talk about offering practices people can use, and about parts work like Internal Family Systems, where planets and placements can be understood as parts of us that once did a job and may be ready to do it differently. I also share my own Mars square Neptune story: becoming an astrologer in a family of scientists.

Healing and justice go hand in hand. When we do our inner work, it has to translate into making the world a safer, kinder, more inclusive place. We don’t see that as separate from astrology. It’s part of practicing it well.

Collective over competition. Louise and I share a dream of astrologers supporting each other and creating together rather than competing, a co-creative approach built on the language of possibility.

I’d love to know what you think. If something we said sparked a question or an idea, leave a comment. If enough questions come in, we may turn this into a series.
